The cold weather plaguing the rest of the country paid a visit to Houston, too. I usually grow vegetables all year long – especially Thai bird chili plants so I always have fresh heat for Asian dishes.

Alas, the week of near-to-freezing temperatures we had were not kind to most of my patio garden plants. This afternoon I went out and harvested what I could and said aloha oe to a some of the plants that will not revive.

While the Thai bird chili plants aren’t quite dead, they did need to be trimmed back dramatically. By the time I was done, I had this huge bowl of what was growing on the withered stalks of the plants.

They’ve got the same heat whether they’re red or green. The color combination is, I think, fitting for this time of year. Ho ho ho!
