What a surprise it was to see that Hawaiian Airlines has the second-best record for punctuality in 2014. Not just for American-owned airlines, but for the world.
I used to fly Hawaiian Airlines to get to and from work each weekday when I lived in Pahoa on the Big Island of Hawaii and my office was on Oahu. We were usually on time, unless a certain pilot – and it was always the same one – decided to request clearance to fly us over the tops of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa to look at the snow.
According to this data provided by statistia, 95% of Air Baltic’s flights (Latvia’s national carrier) arrived within 15 minutes of their planned arrival time. Next was Hawaiian Airlines, posting an impressive 93.3% performance statistic.
Locals and kama’aina will joke about being on “Hawaiian Time,” but this is one instance where the exact opposite is something to crow about.
So sayeth the StickMonkey.
