Come Saturday, the Tucson Citizen will cease publication after 140 years.

I worked there back at the start of this decade.

The Gannett Corporation made it easy to kill the newspaper – which really seems evil – but it’s a public company and it has to dance to whatever steps its stockholders want. They pull the strings.

I still know a few people at the Tucson Citizen and I hope they all find new opportunities…just maybe not in the newspaper biz, since – well, that’s pretty obvious.

So sayeth the StickMonkey.
